This was a really good read. I could see with some tweaking, it could become a good piece that is worthy of getting published. Thank you so much for sharing it!

Everyone above me has already pointed out the very poignant theme about the plight of the homeless, and I don't have much to add except I agree. But I also sense a theme of isolation - from the lady in the SUV to the clerks behind the counter, and even the college kids you interview. None of them probably meant any malice, but thanks to the way life is, it's next to impossible to have any meaningful interaction with the strangers who surround you. All we can do, even after witnessing grave injustice, is to shrug and coldly carry on with life. The world is so full of people, and yet it's such a lonely place.

...Which is why I really love the ending to the piece because it shows just how two unlikely people can bond. :) Pops sharing his real name - I mean - it's probably something nobody ever asks him to do. It's just a really poignant moment and it made me really curious about what other conversations you guys had that couldn't make it to the article.

Anyways, lovely piece, and I look forward to seeing more of your writing. (I hope you don't abandon this blog yet!) I'll definitely be following and supporting you.

maybe you should move on. quit dwelling in the unchangeable past, live like there is no tomorrow presently for a great and mysterious future. girls will still like you if you aren't "emo".
